Early October 2000 I took my friend Kat to see a litter of Rotty puppies, it had been her dream, to own one for many years. I took Vicky for a day out to cuddle puppies, BIG MISTAKE!! Yes you guessed we bought one as well. Freyer joined our family at the end of October. She was Vicky's dog and she had great plans to do breed showing and agility. Training started really well and she passed her puppy, Bronze and Silver Good Citizen tests with flying colours. At about this time we noticed that not all her adult teeth had come through. We waited and waited but unfortunately they never appeared. That was the end of her showing career, but not to worry there was still agility and Vicky preferred that option anyway. Freyer was booked into a beginner's class and was due to start when we noticed she was very slightly lame on one of her hind legs. She was rested but she remained lame. Off to the vets and the x-ray showed that she had excellent hips (scored at 4:4) but one of her cruciate ligaments had ruptured. That was the end of any hopes for agility. Freyer was operated on and spent many hours at hydro therapy to get her fit again. Freyer's

ruptured and
she was again operated on. Freyer has had a total of £4500 spent on
hind legs but it has been worth it just to see her belting around the
fields with the collies. (I am sure she thinks she is a collie) The Rottie is a breed that takes some getting to know as they are vocal, stubborn and in Freyer's case cantankerous don't be fooled they are also very clever when it is to their advantage!! But she is sweet natured and would no more think of biting a person or any dog than fly to the moon. Our next door neighbour Stuart wouldn't agree as she takes great delight barking at him because she knows he is scared of her Don't let anyone tell you Rotties are a vicious breed, because the one we have is the biggest softie you could ever meet. Her favourite position in the evening is sitting on Paul's lap the two of them snoring together!!
